A Summary Of The Latest Changes To Our Web Page

Each month, as new features are added to our web site, we will highlight them on this summary of changes page. As each new feature is added we will add a note about it in this summary page. So you may want to visit this page a few times each month to keep up with the latest changes and improvements to our web site

As often as possible, the description of the new feature will include a link to take you directly to that feature.

Please note: we want to make this web site as useful as possible for you. So, if there is a feature you would like us to add to the site, feel free to let us know by sending a message to:
b.hinman@calcomui.org

Here are the changes or additions made to this web site this month.

1. We have added the report of our achievents in July of 2009. This report lists the bills we did legislative alerts on in July, where we had our members send messages (such as to what committee or to the floor of the Senate or Assembly), What issue each bill relates to, the number of messages sent on each bill, and the position taken on the bills (such as support or oppose). In Addition the report shows the outcome for each bill, if it is known at the time the report was created.

The report also provides totals of the messages sent to the legislature this month, both by issue area and overall. It also provides the same totals for the period beginning March 1 (when we began keeping tallies) through the end of July. During that time we have delivered over 209,000 messages to state legislators.

You can receive alerts on the important bills of the day by keying your E-mail address into the yellow box at the bottom of this page.

To see the July report, click on "Achievements" on the left side of this page. Then click on "July 2009 Achievements."

2. We have added our July newsletter to this web page. To see a copy of the newsletter click on CalComUI Newsletter on the left side of this page and then click on Newsletter July 2009.

3. We have added three new translation request cards that people can print and use to ask their doctors to provide free translation services during doctors visits. The new translation request cards are in Hindi, Indonesian and Nepali. We now have translation request cards in 26 languages.

To read the details, and see the translation cards, click on Person of Color Issues on the left side of this page. Then read the article on how Health Care Service Plans and Health Insurance Companies must pay for translation services for people who speak limited English.

4. Bills are now getting approved by the Legislature and sent to the Governor for signature or veto. We have added three lists about those bills to our web site. One is a list of the bills addressed by California Communities United Institute which have been sent to the Governor, but on which he has taken no action as yet. A second is a list of bills we addressed which the Governor signed. The third is a list of bills we addressed and which the Governor vetoed.

To see the lists of these bills, click on "Current State Legislation" on the left side of this page.

5. We have added a report of the July Unemployent rates by county in California. We also have, on our web site, a list of the county food banks giving their names, addresses and phone numbers. YOu might want to visit one if you need help putting foood on the table or if you can make a donation. To find the report and list, click on Economic Jusitic issues on the left side of this page.

6. We have added our August newsletter to the website. To see the newsletter, click on CalComUI Newsletter on the left side of this page. Then scroll down to the link entitled "Newsletter August 2009" and click on that link.
