OUR MISSION
To promote the social, economic, and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals, couples and families; people affected by HIV/AIDS; people of color; and women. We do this by urging elected officials to enact and support legislation that accomplishes this goal.
OUR PROCESS
By participating in the work that we do you will be part of a powerful effort working on behalf of our communities. The members and friends of California Communities United Institute (CalComUI.org) send over 300,000 e-mails to elected officials each year. As a result, we see more bills of benefit to our communities passed each year.
As a member of the CalComUI.org e-mail alert system, you will get periodic alerts about upcoming votes on bills in the state legislature, or about the need to write to the Governor on some important bill. The alerts will contain background information about the bill telling you why the bill is so important. The alerts will also include a sample letter which you can send to the legislators. It will also provide instructions on how to send your messages to the legislators or to the Governor
The alerts you receive will be about bills that relate to the five subject areas addressed by CalComUI.org. Those areas are:
- HIV/AIDS
- Lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/intersex issues
-Economic Justice Issues
-Issues of concern to People of Color
- Women's issues.
You will also receive periodic messages with information on a variety of topics of interest to the people we serve. These messages will include links to lists of all the bills being tracked by CalComUI.org. The lists will tell you the author, the purpose, the current status of each bill and CalComUI.org's position on the bill.
Please know that you determine whether or not you should get these e-mailings from us. If ever you want to be taken off our e-mail list, just click on the words "SafeUnsubcribe" which will be found at the bottom of every message we send you. That will automatically remove you from our e-mail list.
We endeavor to send each of every day’s alerts before 8:00 AM. (There may be as many as three alerts in a day.) But since we deliver them early, normally, when you turn your computer on, you will see all the alerts that we plan to send you that day.
There may be days when an emergency requires an alert be sent after 8:00AM. But we will do all we can to keep those days to a minimum.
We invite you to use our services. However, we are self funded. We will not ask you to donate money.
