Introduction To California Communities United Institute

Do Our Letters Make A Difference?

"Nearly identical percentages of legislative staffers said postal mail (90%) and E-mail (88%) would influence an undecided legislator."*

What Services Does California Communities United Institute Provide?

We research and publicize critical bills as they travel through the California legislature. Our newsletter, e-mail alert system and other tools give an effective voice for many who otherwise would not have a say in law-making in California.

We make it easy for the members and friends of CalcomUI to send more than 100,000 E-mails and faxes to California state legislators and the Governor each year. We have become a network to stop bad laws and help enact good laws.

If you feel frustrated:

--because you don't know about bills that will damage
your community until it is too late,

--because bills that would benefit the people you know die
in committee

--because you don't get around to responding to bills despite
your best intentions, or

--because the entire process is too difficult to follow given
your busy life.

We Can Help.

To begin, just sign up for our free e-mail mailing list. The
information you need will pop up in your e-mail box in a
format that makes it easy for you to do something about it.

You can sign up  by keying your E-mail address into the yellow box at the bottom of this page.

In particular, we focus on promoting the social, economic, and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals, couples and families; people affected by HIV/AIDS; People of Color; people on limited income, and women. We do this by urging California elected officials to enact and support legislation that accomplishes this goal.

Our Services Are Free

California Communities United Institute is self funded. We invite you to make use of our services, but we will not ask you to donate money.

Why Should I Join California Communities United Institute?

Here is what some of our current members say:

"Without your service, I would say that I should "look deeper" into an issue or I would "think" about writing a letter; but truth be told, I probably wouldn't. But now, YOU do it all for me, and yet I get the satisfaction of actually having sent that letter! How cool is that!?!"

"Since I am a dyed-in-the-wool, left wing, liberal, Berkeley-trained Social Worker, I don't usually need to spend a lot of effort on deciding whether I agree with you. That makes it even easier! Ya gotta love that!!"

"I like the way CalComUI puts the purpose of complex legislation into an easy to understand format, while including the reasons that it's important for a legislator to vote for or against a bill that matters to the people I care most about."

"I like that I can now share the email alerts on Facebook with a quick click."

"CCUI makes it easy for me to contact legislators regarding specific legislation that impacts women, people of color, LGBT individuals and the poor in a timely fashion."

"I like that it's a free service. I pay nothing for it."

"I like that I don't have to go to a lot of meetings "

"I like knowing my voice has added impact on legislators because it is joined by others from all over California"

"I like that you really live up to your motto: Advocacy with a heart."

"I like very much that I have once place to go, to see what's happening around the community. I don't have the time or resources to "shop around" to get my news. You're very informative, quite thorough, and as bipartisan as you can get. I appreciate CalComUI and my one stop shop"
